Android App
[05.08.2023]
This feature would be very cool, but also very large. At this point, it would probably take another 1-2 years after the feature development has been started. So this is just a placeholder for now.
However, I would love to hear your ideas! :)
[19.12.2025]
Since a complete rewrite of the app would be extremely time-consuming, the best option seems to be using Skip instead of building everything from scratch using Flutter, React (Native) or Kotlin. That doesn't mean there will never be a web version, but the focus is on Android first and then, possibly later, on a web app that is truly optimized for the web.
Additionally, modernizing the app with Skip / SwiftUI would benefit existing users as well by delivering new features more quickly in the future and improving app stability overall.

Maybe later because it seems to be quite a lot of work and I am not sure if we have any (major) benefits from thisWe may see major benefits from this, as we currently experience significant memory allocation and GC spikes on Android due to the JVM's memory management, especially during app launch and when many operations happen in parallel=> Therefore we should try to use Skip FuseI have tried out Skip Fuse. However it took me about 4-5 days to get the app back βworkingβ (compile and launchable) but the result was not great at this stage:
I got several ANRs which didnβt occur in the Skip Lite Version (but at least significantly less GC pauses compared to Skip Lite)
Basic stuff such as Combine does not work without modifiying other Skip libraries such as skip-model because currently it is ony supported by Skip Lite
(Unit) Testing was also a bit cumbersome since when running the tests in CLI mode (skip android test) some tests were failing due to missing JNI stuff
Maybe I try it out / migrate everything at a later stage. For now I will try to improve the Skip Lite version because it seems much more promising in my use case.

[Milestone 1] [100% Completed]
[Create Skip Project + Implement Core Architecture] β
The first milestone is to create the new Skip project in order to get to know Skip and to start implementing the core architekture (incl. data model / logic).
Initially, the plan was to split the code into separate Swift packages to migrate the model and logic code first in order to be able to reuse it in the existing UIKit app.
Although this approach technically worked, it resulted in code that was difficult to maintain and performed very poorly on Android when using lots of data.
Therefore, the decision was made to rethink the architecture and switch to a repository-based approach. Although this involves significant additional refactoring effort, it ultimately results in a much more decoupled architecture and thus a more maintainable foundation for the future.
Status:
The Skip project incl. the core (repository) architecture has been implemented β
[Milestone 2] [100% Completed]
[Migrate Core Features to Skip Project incl. mandatory Tests] β
The second milestone is then to incrementally migrate all core features to Skip such as item management and transaction handling.
This milestone is by far the biggest one since it involves a lot of effort (switching from UIKit to SwiftUI + making it compatible with Android / Skip + incorporating it into the new repository architecture).
Status:
The core features (incl. the complete user interface in SwiftUI) have been implemented (see list above) β
[Milestone 3] [95% Completed] β³
[Take over Apple-Specific Features to the Skip Project]
The third milestone is to take over all of the other Apple-specific features to the new Skip project such as Widgets, Shortcuts and Apple Watch support.
This ensures that all existing features will still be available in the new Skip app for all existing Apple users.

[Setup Build / Deployment Pipeline + Release Beta Version]
The fourth milestone is to setup the build / deployment pipeline to be able to build / release Apple and Android Builds using Fastlane.
Since the Skip Showcase app also uses Fastlane (like the existing Budget Flow UIKit app) the migration of the existing build scripts should be straight forward.
After the build / deployment pipelines are working, we can release the first beta version of the new Skip app using Testflight for iOS/iPadOS/macOS and Google Play for Android.

[Milestone 5] [0% Completed]
[Stabilize App + Incorporate Beta Feedback]
The fifth milestone is to stabilize the new Skip app based on beta tester feedback and to fix any remaining issues before the final release.
Although all major features should already be implemented at this point (incl. tests), real-world testing will likely reveal additional bugs, performance issues and UX improvements that are difficult to identify during development.
This milestone is therefore focused on improving overall quality and ensuring that the new Skip app is ready to release on the App Store and Play Store.
Status:
Test Flight Beta (iOS, iPadOS, macOS)
Play Store Beta (Android)
[Milestone 6] [0% Completed]
[Update Metadata + Release App on the App Store / Play Store]
The final milestone is to update the (store) metadata (descriptions, screenshots, etc.) and to release the new Skip app to both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Hi Fabian,
Hope you're doing well! I wanted to follow up on our conversation from last December.
First of all, wow - I just saw the detailed status update from Oct 11th. The progress is incredible, congrats on getting Milestone 4 (including the Android build/beta lanes) to 100% and Milestone 3 to 95%. Itβs amazing to see how far the Skip approach has come since we last spoke.
You had mentioned Summer 2026 as a rough target for the first Android version - could you share where things stand now? Is the closed beta for Android about to start as part of Milestone 5?
As I mentioned, I'm a long-time Premium user on iOS and since I switched to Android, Budget Flow is still the one app I miss the most. The core features you confirmed (creation/editing of data, general views, monthly income and expense entry) are exactly what I need.
I'd love to volunteer as a beta tester for the Android version as early as possible. I'm happy to provide detailed feedback, crash logs, and test backup/restore, categories, etc.
Thanks again for the transparency and for all the amazing work you're putting into this!
Best,
Alessio / Skenetti
Fabian

Hi @Alessio Schenetti,
Thank you very much for your kind words!
While things have taken a bit longer than initially planned, the new version is almost ready. There are still a few bugs I'd like to fix first, but I'm planning to release the first TestFlight beta of version 4.0.0 for Apple platforms later this week or early next week at the latest.
The Android beta will follow shortly after. Once everything is ready, I'll update this feature item accordingly and invite everyone to join the public beta.
Thanks again for your patience and your continued support! π
Best regards,
Fabian

This is the only thing I am waiting for, so I can migrate my data from another platform to here. I like the design of this app, and still using my old tracking tool since it is still the best app I know that syncs all across the devices (including web app). I like using web rather than tracking them on my phone, it is just a bigger screen, and can edit/add/delete/track way more easier.

This is really a great placeholder :) I like the idea. But when you move to a website there are some factors you need to consider:
security (what layers will you implement)
sync (how it will be done)
data storage (must be bulletproof, you donβt want to get the data stolen)
GDPR etcβ¦
Going to web and store user data there can be a really painful job to do from all the views. But like Iβve said I like the idea, which is great, but not that simple to do :)

Thanks for considering Team Android! I've always used the Samsung S series, I have a Windows PC, but I use a MacBook for work/study/organization, and I've seriously considered switching to an iPhone just because I use a lot of apps that are only available on macOS and iOS (Budget Flow among them). But I'll never completely abandon Windows, and I'd appreciate support for that platform :)

A web app is the final feature needed to make this application perfect!
I spend a significant amount of time on my PC at work (where I am required to use a Microsoft/Windows environment) and at home. A web interface would be an incredible quality-of-life improvement.
It would be much easier and more convenient to manage and track transfers on a larger screen directly from my desktop, which would also prevent eye strain from constantly using the small iPhone view. This feature would drastically improve my daily use and productivity.

Iβve been a Premium user of Budget Flow on iOS for a long time, and I absolutely love the app!
Recently, I switched to Android and itβs the one app I miss the most.
I am incredibly excited to see the Web App on the roadmapβas a paying supporter, this is exactly what I was hoping for!
Do you have a rough estimate or a target release window for the first version?
Iβd love to start using Budget Flow again as soon as possible.
Keep up the amazing work!

Hi @Skenetti,
thank you for your question. I have actually evaluated how I can bring the app to Android as well most efficiently a couple of weeks ago. During the time I have evaluated several options such as Flutter, React (Native), Kotlin and Skip.
Since a complete rewrite of the app would be extremely time-consuming (and I work on the app alongside my full-time job), in my opinion, the best option seems to be using Skip instead of building everything from scratch. That doesn't mean there will never be a web version, but the focus is currently on Android first and then, possibly later, on a web app that is truly optimized for the web.
Skip basically translates Swift and SwiftUI code (used within the Apple ecosystem) to Kotlin and Jetpack Compose (used within the Google / Android ecosystem). This enables me to reuse a significant portion of my existing code, including the data model, logic, and tests, thereby saving a considerable amount of time. Additionally, it presents an opportunity to modernize certain aspects of the existing app using SwiftUI and to work on a unified codebase which allows me to simultaneously develop features for both the Apple and Google / Android ecosystems in the future.
In fact, Iβm already working on the initial version. However, in order to release a first version for Android as soon as possible, not all features may be available at launch (such as widgets and sync). Nevertheless, the first results are currently looking very promising, which could lead to an Android version during Summer 2026 (provided nothing else comes up π ).
Iβll update this post later to provide a more detailed overview of the progress π
Does that sound reasonable to you? I would also be interested to know which features are most important to you for the first version.
Best regards,
Fabian

Hi Fabian,
Thank you very much for your quick response\! I really appreciate you taking the time to provide such a detailed update. Compliments on the development approach you're taking with Skipβit sounds like a brilliant way to leverage your existing work and bring the app to Android efficiently.
Regarding the features most important to me for the first Android version, I would prioritize the core functionality:
1. Setting the monthly income.
2. Being able to enter expense items.
The ability to set up categories is also very important, but I agree that the core income and expense tracking can come first, and categories could be introduced in a subsequent update.
Does that sound reasonable?
Best regards,
Alessio
Fabian
Dec 20, 2025
Hi Alessio,
Yes, I included all of that in the basics. So, the general creation, editing, and deletion of data, as well as the general views should be availeble in the first version of the Android app. Only certain extras, such as advanced evaluations, widgets, etc., will come later. But that should at least allow you to do the most important things on Android :)
I updated the list above yesterday to make the status more transparent (incl. the priorization). If there is anything new, I will adjust it accordingly.
Best regards,
Fabian
