[3.0.0] Add possibility to bulk edit (like changing accounts, categories, tags, evaluated, etc)

It is currently already possible to select several elements via Multi Selection and then delete them. However, this feature should be extended, at least for transactions, so that several transactions can be processed at once. This feature should include the following:

  • Account

  • Category

  • Payee

  • Tags

  • IsPending Flag

  • Include in Statistics Flag

    At the end of each year I import thousands of bank transactions, and then classify them for tax purposes: service income, bank fees, commissions, business expenses, etc. The way Budget Flow is designed, I would have to right-click and select “Edit” for each transaction, one-by-one, to categorize them. It would result in the process taking days instead of hours.

    So, the feature request: upgrade the multi-selection tool for better bulk editing:

    • Allow multi-selection to remain always enabled (so it doesn't have to be activated each time in the (…) menu).

    • Enable changing any attribute of multiple selected transaction. In my case, I will need to set the category, notes, and pending status.

    • Add multi-selection to the search results screen.

    • Add a “Select all” function, to select all visible transactions (I will need to search by name or amount, then apply a category to all).

    Please also allow bulk turning items into transfers. Importing a CSV sees these as standalone payments, it would be good if identical amounts on the same date could be merged en mass to be transfers. Seems to be no way to do this in the import CSV.

      Hi @antiquatedantelope, I’m quite new to budgetflow but loving it so far. I notice that if I use the exact same format (for a transfer) as I get when I export a csv, then I’m able to import transfers as well.

    So reading about this request that I would also love to see implemented, I was thinking whether it would make more sense to focus the effort into allowing direct queries and editing on the local db using python without raising cloud syncing issues. Particularly given the world we are heading into, where it is becoming easier to ask chatgpt to “take all the transactions containing the term Amazon on the description and put them in a new category called Amazon”, or “read through the csv export and compare it with the pdf bank statements attached to reconcile the balances”. I can imagine all the effort required to implement a single feature such as multi selection and editing within search, so I wonder if we could all, including the author, benefit from a move like this.

      Actually, bulk editing is already supported in Budget Flow. If you tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the transaction list and select Multi Selection, you can select multiple transactions and change their category or other properties all at once.

      As for your suggestion, it sounds more like an MCP server or an AI integration that would allow tools like ChatGPT to interact with your local data using natural language. I can definitely see the potential in that, especially for more complex tasks like the ones you described!

      It's certainly an interesting direction to explore in the future. However, my current focus is on modernizing the app and bringing Budget Flow to Android, so it's not something I'm planning to work on in the near future.

        Hi Fabian,

        Thanks for your quick reply. AI integration certainly sounds like a promising direction for the future, though I understand that other enhancements currently in development may take priority.

        I mentioned AI not only for ease of use, but also as a possible workaround for the limitations I’ve encountered, particularly when handling large amounts of data. To return to the OP’s point, I can’t see a way in the current version to enable multiple selection for a filtered set of transactions—for example, search results. Please correct me if I’ve overlooked this option.

        I can enable multiple selection when viewing the full list of transactions within a category. But what if I need to apply a change to hundreds of transactions that meet specific criteria? Is there a way to do that in bulk?

        As far as I’m aware, transactions can only be assigned to a category during import or manually, one by one, afterwards. That becomes cumbersome with larger datasets, so I’d appreciate any guidance on a more efficient approach.
