Under consideration

Budget Flow

Asset management in the app (stocks, ETFs, etc.)

This feature would make the app a single tool for the entire financial management. However, this can only be used in a really meaningful way if the price data is also updated automatically.

Fabian
Budget Flow

Linking of bank accounts (incl. synchronization)

For some users, it would be convenient to (optionally) link their real bank accounts to the app to automatically record transactions. Since automatic categorization is very complex, this feature can also be implemented as following for the time being: There is a separate area where you can link 1 or more accounts. The bank data is automatically synchronized in the background and transactions are created as needed. Since the transactions are not categorized, they first end up in a kind of "inbox" view where each transaction can be categorized. After the transaction is saved, it is removed from the "inbox" area and displayed periodically in the application. However, due to regulatory constraints, the feature may initially be available in only a few countries (e.g. Germany).

Lent / Borrow Feature

A button that shows how much money you have lent or borrowed from others. This will not be included in the charts

Spread transactions

It would be great if transactions could include a start and end date to influence the monthly +/- balance. E.g. adding the ability to apply the start and end date for e.g. a membership/subscription (gym, insurance, utility bill) if payed annually, quarterly etc. (exceeding one calendar month). The amount should be deducted directly from the account as it has been already paid but calculated based on the total days of the prepayment (e.g. 365 days) the amount for each day should be applied to monthly balancing if opted in. Let’s say a gym membership costs 600€ per year, the annual payment of the 600€ should be deducted from the bank account but there should be the option to distribute/spread the transaction balance across the entire time e.g. -50.95€ in January so there isn‘t a full hit in Decembers +/- balance. Same could be applied to income as well e.g. bonus one-time-payment for the entire prior year.

Please add saving goals for bank accounts

It would be nice if we can set saving goals for bank accounts and then a get a visual representation of our current savings. Like a progress bar (left side is 0, right side is saving goal, current progress would be the current savings)

Copy & move accounts / categories / transactions between two budget books

If you have several budget books (e.g. one for yourself and one for the whole family) and you want to have the same entries in both of them, you currently have to create them twice. In this case it would be convenient to be able to copy or move the entries from one budget book to the other.

Fabian

Split transactions between participants in a shared budget book

In a shared budget book, there should be a way to split expenses between each participant

Waseem

Add Transaction Cost Field

Would it be possible to add an optional "transaction cost" field when creating a new transaction? Most of my payments include fees (e.g. bank or transfer charges), and currently I have to create two separate entries — one for the actual expense and one for the fee. Having this as part of the same transaction would streamline input and improve data accuracy. Ideally, the total debited (amount + fee) could also show up in summaries. Thanks!

Owner Expense

It would be great to have an option to associate an expense with the shared account, even when it's paid through a personal account. In our case, my wife and I manage both personal and shared budget books. Typically, we cover shared expenses using our personal accounts and later reimburse ourselves in bulk from the shared budget book via the 'transfer' mode. Being able to link the expense to the shared account would streamline this process.

Add more customization options for the app's UI

Basically, the app is very simple and intuitive to use. However, as more functionality is added, it can become more complex to use because all the UI elements take up space. To reduce the complexity, it might be useful to add more customization options to simplify the UI. Here are some examples: Customize the menu and tab bar items (for example, remove the Budgets tab if you don't use budgets). Hide certain areas of the transaction form ...

Carry-over unused budget amount to following months

Once you have setup your budgets for the month and track each of the transactions within the budget category, it would be great to be able to carry-over unused budget amounts from the current month to the next month (and so on). For example if you have a budget (of $300) for Groceries in September 2023, you only use $250 in September, you can carry-over the additional $50 to the following month (Oct. 2023) giving you an increased budget of $350 for the month of October 2023. This would therefore allow you to spend additional available funds in either the next month or the following month(s). This would be helpful for yearly budgeting if you are trying to save additional funds for months later on in the year.

Add support for separate amounts within a single transaction

Currently, transactions created in the application can only be created with the total amount and a single assigned category. However, for a more detailed view, some users may prefer to add a list of individual amounts within a single transaction. For example, if the transaction is assigned to the "Groceries" category, you should be able to add individual sub-amounts to individual sub-categories within a single transaction (e.g. $10 meat, $5 cheese, etc.). In the transaction list, you'll still see the parent category and the total amount ("Groceries"), but when you open the transaction details, you'll see the individual breakdown of subcategories and amounts. Alternatively, you can already use the notes to enter the items and partial amounts. Example from other apps:

Fabian
Budget Flow

Allow multiple categories per transaction

Mint has this nice feature where you can split a transaction across multiple categories. For example, my wife and I might go to Costco and get groceries but also get things that might go under our shopping budget or our own personal budgets. It’s easy to just add multiple transactions if adding them manually, but if importing a CSV (or if account connection support is added) it would be nice to split the transaction when editing it.

Allow redistribution and flexible adjustment of budgets

Currently, budgets are kept fairly static (i.e. they are created once with a fixed amount and then adjusted accordingly for the displayed period). However, since e.g. income can change in a certain month, it makes sense to adjust the budget flexibly. It should also be possible to redistribute budgets, e.g. for a specific month, if you want to distribute all your income to the budgets. In the future, when you edit a budget (e.g. the amount), you should be asked if you want to adjust all budgets or just the current and all future budgets. This would be similar to the behavior when you are currently editing a recurring transaction and the app asks if you want to adjust only the selected transaction or all future transactions. If you then adjust only the current and all future budgets (e.g. increase the purchase budget from $100 to $200 starting in July), you will still see the $100 budget as soon as you set the displayed period to June. In addition, it would be useful to display the unplanned budget (income - planned budget [of the respective period]) instead of the "Available" area of the budget list, so that you can plan every euro. It would also be nice to be able to automatically distribute the unplanned budget to the individual budgets (e.g. as a percentage depending on the size of the budget). Furthermore, it should be possible to define a starting amount for budgets and to automatically carry over unused budget amounts to the next period.

Fabian
Budget Flow

Credit Limit

There needs to have a credit limit field for users to input for credit accounts so that at a glance, users will be able to see how much the have left or used but as of now this needs to be manually calculated.

Danny Koh
Budget Flow

Add options to configure the CSV export

Currently only transactions of the active budget book are exported. However, it should be possible to configure the export so that, for example, all transactions of all budget books or only certain accounts in a certain time period are exported.

Jens
Budget Flow

Calendar View

Please add a Calendar view as an option beside List view for Planned transactions.

Add start date to budgets

I would like to change the value of a budget starting at defined point in time. Example this month and all month before I have to pay 60€ for something, starting next month I have to 40€ for the same. If I change the budget value it will change for all months So how can I handle this

Jens
Budget Flow

Choosing the date from when to start the budget

Salary crediting happens once a month and is always at the end of the month, so when you have paid all the recurrences then you have a budget for the rest of the month

Better keyboard support

When attached to external keyboard, even when enter the transaction amount, a big software keypad still showing up, and enter the dot(.) doesn’t work with external keyboard. It’ll be great to support keyboard shortcuts as well, ie Create new transaction, search transactions, edit transactions, etc

Android App

[05.08.2023] This feature would be very cool, but also very large. At this point, it would probably take another 1-2 years after the feature development has been started. So this is just a placeholder for now. However, I would love to hear your ideas! :) [19.12.2025] Since a complete rewrite of the app would be extremely time-consuming, the best option seems to be using Skip instead of building everything from scratch using Flutter, React (Native) or Kotlin. That doesn't mean there will never be a web version, but the focus is on Android first and then, possibly later, on a web app that is truly optimized for the web. Additionally, modernizing the app with Skip / SwiftUI would benefit existing users as well by delivering new features more quickly in the future and improving app stability overall. [4.0.0] Refund feature

Very straightforward, find the expensed transaction, there will be a button to refund, after clicking it, it will automatically create a new account that states that it is a refund

mason
Budget Flow

[4.0.0] Store backups in iCloud Drive as well

Currently, the backups are only saved on the local device. However, if the app is deleted, all local backups will no longer be available. For this reason, they should also be saved in iCloud Drive. Maybe also add the option to choose where backups should be stored (device, iCloud, both).

Improvements for Shortcuts Actions

I use a Shortcut to help me log expenses automatically, triggered by SMS automation, OCR-based text recognition from screenshots, or GPT-powered image and text analysis. Sometimes, I can determine the category automatically, but other times I can’t. Right now, I set the category as a variable and manually adjust it later. If there were an action that returned a list of categories, I could select one when the category isn’t automatically determined (of course, I could manually create a list, but that’s less convenient). Additionally, since the type field in the “Create Transaction” action doesn’t support variables, I have to use an if condition to create two separate “Create Transaction” actions instead of handling everything within one action. Allowing variables in the type field would make the process much more seamless.

Android, please... Android please...

Unlike App Store, it's possible to upload current forks and webapps to Google Play Store. I like your product, but I have Samsung Galaxy as main phone, besides my Mac and iPad, and I huge miss Budget Flow when I on the road. Thx!. Upvote for webapp or something that could be use on Android and on my main developing laptop using Arch Linux. Thx!!!!!

[4.0.0] Add option to filter repeating transactions

Currently there are already a lot of filter options. However these should be extended by the possibility to filter by repeating transactions as well.

Fabian

[4.0.0] Categories are not being shown correctly

Categories that are inside of most used do not appear under the correct category groups

mhmd21
Budget Flow

[4.0.0] Refund transaction

I would love to see a refund button inside of the transactions (or accessible by holding on a transaction). Clicking this button should allow us to generate a new refund transaction that would be directly linked to the original expense for easy tracking and reconciliation. This process should allow for both partial and full refunds. If this functionality could be somehow implemented using Shortcuts, that would be fantastic.

mhmd21
Budget Flow

[4.0.0] Most Used Categories get moved

When a category becomes “Most Used” the category gets moved up to the top of the list and is no longer found in the original category types, which becomes confusing

[4.0.0] Back up recurring transactions

Currently if you back up and restore your data, recurring transactions are not reinstated

[3.0.4] Currency conversion Improvement

I know this has been mentioned before, but no changes were made, so I’m asking again.. Could we please have the option to specify the amounts in both currencies when transferring between currency accounts? Conversion rates differ from place to place, and it would be much simpler to enter both amounts (EUR paid and USD received, for example) and let the app calculate the conversion for us. I constantly struggle getting the amounts correct, and if I don’t want the amounts displayed in the app to be inaccurate then I need to tweak the conversion rates every single time. It’s just a huge pain as it is now.

[3.0.0] Add possibility to bulk edit (like changing accounts, categories, tags, evaluated, etc)

It is currently already possible to select several elements via Multi Selection and then delete them. However, this feature should be extended, at least for transactions, so that several transactions can be processed at once. This feature should include the following: Account Category Payee Tags IsPending Flag Include in Statistics Flag

[2.2.0] Adding bank logos

Adding logos for banks, PayPal, etc. instead of just using icons.

AA
Budget Flow

[2.0.0] Show balance per category, account or budget

It would be helpful, to have an overview for accounts, categories, etc. where you can see the balance for the given period.

Jens
Budget Flow

[2.0.0] Add financial reports

It would be convenient to receive automatically generated financial reports. These can work something like this: Possibility to select the period (every month there is a new report) Possibility in "Reminder settings" to be "Informed about new reports" Pre-Defined Reports for each Account, Category, etc. Basic structure of the report: Trend (e.g. of income, expenses and account balances) Comparison between income and expenses (Balance) Savings Rate and average income / expenses per day / month [Optional] Achievements (e.g. X months positive balance)

Fabian
Budget Flow

[2.2.0] Add option to use / upload own icons

Currently there is already a large selection of icons. However, if someone wants to use special logos (for example of companies or banks) it would be useful to offer the possibility to add own icons.

Fabian
Budget Flow

[2.1.0] Being able to search in all history

I like the way Budget Flow handles periods of time. However when I search for that one transaction in my lifetime I would like to search in all history at once. Usually I try to find a specific transaction to see when it happened or what was the amount. Currently I need to change my period to year (from current month) and then try to search in every year to find the transaction.

[2.1.0] Custom repetition intervals for transactions

Currently, the app already offers many options for creating recurring transactions. For special cases, however, it may be useful to add the ability to define custom repetition intervals (e.g. every 4 days). Inspiration how to implement this: See Apple's reminders app.

Fabian
Budget Flow

[3.1.0] Extract data from PDF

Are you planning to have a data extract feature from receipts in PDF or other formats?

Asen Stefanov
Budget Flow

[1.6.8] Transfer transactions should be linked

Currently transfers create two separat transactions. If you need to change something on this transfer, you must do the change in both transactions, because there is no link between those transactions. At least a link in the data to jump from one transaction to the other would be nice. Even better would it be, if I could do the change in one transaction and the changes are broadcasted to the other transaction. => Counter entry ("Gegenbuchung") Button
