Allow Adding New Payees Directly in "Create Transaction" Shortcut

I’ve been using the ‘Create Transaction’ Apple Shortcut from the lock screen to log my daily expenses quickly and efficiently. It’s been an absolute game-changer for how I track my finances on the go.

However, there’s one major roadblock that breaks the otherwise seamless experience — Payee selection.

Unfortunately, the current implementation only lets you select from existing Payees, and there’s no way to add a new one on the fly. But in most real-world cases, I’m paying someone or something new, not yet added to my Payee list.

To work around this, I created a placeholder Payee called “Enter Later”, and at the end of each day, I manually review all such transactions, create new Payees, and assign them accordingly. This adds unnecessary overhead and breaks the quick-capture intent of the shortcut.

As the Payee list grows into the hundreds or thousands over time, scrolling becomes inefficient. Imagine having to select a Payee from potentially hundreds of Payees in the above screenshot.

Allowing users to search and then either ‘select or create a Payee’ in one step would significantly enhance the user experience.

This can be solved by simply allowing the following :

• Let users search existing Payees.

• If the Payee exists, simply select it but if it is not found, allow them to create a new Payee on the fly by just typing the name.

• The new Payee can have default values, which the user can refine later in the app, if required.

This not only improves efficiency but also eliminates the friction for casual or new Payees, which are often one-off or occasional.

This may seem like a small tweak, but it would be a huge quality-of-life improvement for users who rely on the shortcut for fast expense logging. Hope to see this in a future update — it would truly reduce friction and help users stay consistent with their expense tracking.
