Better keyboard support

When attached to external keyboard, even when enter the transaction amount, a big software keypad still showing up, and enter the dot(.) doesn’t work with external keyboard. It’ll be great to support keyboard shortcuts as well, ie Create new transaction, search transactions, edit transactions, etc

There’s also an issue where when an external keyboard is connected to an iPhone, the user can’t focus on the name or note field of a new category, payee, or tag. The cursor briefly appears in the text field before losing focus. To work around this, navigate to a location without the issue (like the search field), use the eject key to bring out the on-screen keyboard, then navigate back to the problematic area and type using the on-screen keyboard instead.

It is also irritating that text editing for transaction amounts does not follow the usual conventions of text editing. Most noticeable are:

    • You can’t highlight an incorrect amount and then overtype it with the correct amount (e.g. I want to replace 7,66 with 2,99 — I have to manually delete each number before starting again — I should be able to hit Cmd+A to select the existing amount and then overtype it)

    • You can’t completely delete a number before typing a new one (e.g. I want to replace 7,66 with 2,99 — I hit backspace repeatedly, but the final 0 won’t go away, so I have to type 02,99 for some reason)

adding on to this thread. on the Mac app when using the external keyboard with a number pad, I find that the enter key does not “enter” the transaction amount.

    Hi @Danny Wong, @Federico Naranjo,

thank you for your feedback. I have tried to reproduce the issue with entering a dot(.) using an external keyboard (on iPad and Mac), but unfortunately I cannot reproduce it. What is your current region and currency? Depending on the region, either a comma or a dot is used as the decimal separator (in my case in Germany, the comma is used, which might be why it works for me and not for you).

There are already shortcuts for adding transactions (CMD + Shift + I [Income], CMD + Shift + E [Expense], CMD + Shift + T [Transfer]) and for searching (CMD + F). At the moment, only the shortcut for editing transactions is missing.

@Fabian thanks for the quick response

      • mac input is fine, only issue is on iPad with an external keyboard (for reference region & language settings are the same across my devices)

      • My region is set to Canada, but primary language is set to spanish (Español)

      • number format is with decimal as dot . — e.g. number format: 1,234,567.89

let me know if you need any other information!

I also have been having this issue – it makes it almost unusable (the main usage for me is inputting transactions) on iPad.

the software keyboard should either be smaller (like on macOS) or hidden entirely if a hardware keyboard is connected (at least there should be a setting to disable the current behaviour).

I also need to be able to fully input numbers (including decimal points (.)) on the hardware keyboard.
