[2.1.9] Change in sorting order to transaction screen
Hi Fabian,
I’ve got a no-brainer change.
When I’m in the transactions screen:
1. Change to group by “Folder”
2. Sort by “Alphabetically”
I get my categories sorted by alphabetically, as expected 👇 However, the entries under the subcategories are not ordered by date. Could we change that? Right now there’s no pattern to the way they’re ordered. See example before
Setting: Group by > Folder Sort > Alphabetically Ascending

✅AFTER✅ (every thing is the same except the transactions are ordered in terms of dates)

I’ve looked into the behavior, and from my perspective, it works as intended. When you group the transactions by "Folder" and sort them “Alphabetically”, the categories within the folders are sorted by their name, like this:
Free Time
Cinema 5.1.2025
Gaming 1.1.2025
Sport 20.1.2025
Living
Groceries 10.1.2025
Rent 15.1.2025
As you can see, the folder and category names are used for the sorting, but the dates are not considered because otherwise, there would be a conflict. For example, if "Gaming" was sorted above "Cinema" because of the date, it would no longer be alphabetically sorted.
However, if you'd like to sort the transactions within each folder by date, you can simply select "Sort" and then choose "Date" instead.

There’s a misunderstanding probably because I didn’t explain it well enough.
Here’s a picture directly from my budget app:

I have:
Sort > Alphabetically > Ascending
Group By: Folder
In your examples, you’re talking about different subcategories, which is appropriate.
What I am talking about is multiple of the same subcategory - those should be listed by date regardless because they are the same name.
In my example here: https://imgur.com/a/SQMfmv7
The car gasolines are all the same name, but the dates are all over the place and I can’t see a single advantage to having it like that because it makes it much harder to find a purchase if it’s not in order.
The behavior I am suggesting it should be for my picture of the Car Gasoline is in this order:

Jan 17
Jan 28

Thank you so much. There’s 1 more case scenario that will dramatically highlight the need for this.
I’ve tracked expenses from 2013 till now and seeing the transactions for that period is borderline impossible without the entries in the subcategories arranged by date. There’s entries from over 12 years scattered in a chaotic pattern.
I can’t wait to get this, thank you so much for your ongoing support
