Custom dates for Budgets

Could we have a custom option for start and finish dates for budgets where income or expenses may start or finish within a calendar year?

The budgets currently assume that such expenses or income arise equally over a full calendar year.

It would be useful to be able to properly monitor these budgets accurately through the year.
