[4.0.0] Refund feature

Very straightforward, find the expensed transaction, there will be a button to refund, after clicking it, it will automatically create a new account that states that it is a refund

[4.0.0] Refund or Reimburse options with expenses

I’ve been trying to use for a while now but the lack of a reimburse and refund option makes it difficult for me to use the app. The only work around I have noticed is that I can put money back as income but means I can’t really track how much money I am really getting in and I don’t want to delete the expense since I want to see all of my expenses.

The way I imagine this working is under each expense, there will be a refund or reimburse option and this will be tracked separately.

    [4.0.0] Refund transaction

I would love to see a refund button inside of the transactions (or accessible by holding on a transaction). Clicking this button should allow us to generate a new refund transaction that would be directly linked to the original expense for easy tracking and reconciliation.

This process should allow for both partial and full refunds.

If this functionality could be somehow implemented using Shortcuts, that would be fantastic.

I believe implementing refund transactions would allow you to implement multiple transactions/categories in general in the same expense as requested before by multiple users.

throwing my full weight behind this. I hope this gets implemented as now that It’s been suggested I see its potential (though it would need to have a partial refund capability)

Weirdly critical feature for me, and having surveyed dozens of apps few do it for some reason.

For me personally, the goal with refunds is to ensure 2 things:

    1. My expense categories reflect the actual amount spent (net of refunds)

    2. I am able to reconcile the transaction log with my bank account on a daily/weekly/monthly basis - which cannot be achieved if the solution for refunds is just editing the original transaction.

Therefore, for me, it’s good enough to be able to log a debit (negative expense) transaction against my expense categories. Debit & Credit works this way and it’s plenty fine.

The best implementation I’ve seen for this touches on a third user benefit: linking the original transaction to the refund. I found it in Daak. You find the transaction, click refund, and that generates a transaction today for the refund, but also reflects the refund in the original transaction (see attached vid). For me personally, this is a nice to have, and not a must.
